I got 80%, mainly because I recognized most of the scenarios from various movies or Newt-hatin’ blog posts.Report
Same.Report
I started out strong, but finished with only 50% correct.Report
I got 50% as well.
To be honest, while funny, some of the things that are attributed to Newt are exaggerations. Ther are ways to put things I have said together in such a way that make me sound like a supervillain. Also, given that hollywood can be distinctively left of center, its villains are going to correspondingly sound right of center. The left wing dominance of the entertainment industry has the power to shape the opinion of the impressionable young in ways that can be out of proportion to the merit of its ideas.Report
That there were exegerations in the setups is undeniably true. But I disagree with your larger point. For me what that quiz showed wasn’t a liberal bias toward villainy; rather, it made fun of the sheer cartoon-like scope of Newt’s ideas. When faced with a social problem, if your solution is Let’s Build a Giant X it isn’t a question of liberal or conservative; it’s the wanting to build a Giant X that’s funny. In fact, as I was taking this quiz I was wondering how long it will be before there is a Newt or Wile E. Coyote quiz.Report
+1. Newt is certainly exceptional among conservatives in this regard. There’s really no way you could do this quiz with any other prominent Republican in recent memory. Proposing massive complex solutions to problems is the stereotype generally applied to Democrats.Report
To me, the defining mark of a Hollywood supervillain is that they’re almost always technology bulls while heroes are endowed with some natural or spiritual power (Batman is a notable exception to this trend). And Newt is definitely a tech bull.Report
Murali, you mean to tell me you’re not a supervillain? But your avatar?Report
My avatar, (when I first downloaded it years ago) actually refers to Belgarion from David Edding’s Belgariad and Mallorean fantasy series.Report
I got 40%! Could’ve done better by flipping a coin. Harder than it looks, indeed.Report
