Saturday!
The GTAs (well, since III, anyway) have always had some seriously dark satire going on. Donald Love in the third one, pretty much half the cast in the fourth one (COUSIN! LET US GO BOWLING!)… and now I’m exploring the various corners of the creators of GTA V’s collective id.
So far I’ve established that they have some issues with facebook. I’m guessing that one of them had a car repo’ed as well.
Unfortunately, I’m running into issues with dropping in and out of Xbox Live (is this happening to anyone else?) and that’s severely hampering my ability to play… but when I can? I’m having a blast.
So… what are you playing?
The zic alternative to playing video games is playing with yarn.
And playing out scenarios in my silly little head about what a ‘government shutdown’ might actually mean. Air Traffic Controllers, so no flights? What about no over-night loans from the Treasury? Nice one would be no TSA, but hey, if there’s no flights, no need for flight screening. Social Security checks? USDA meat inspectors? FEMA help in Colorado? No national parks is a no brainer. But what about no customs; nobody and nothing entering the US through a customs house.
What’s on your government shutdown game board?Report
No politics!
Or do government shutdowns, being elaborate political theater, qualify as entertainment?Report
Well, it’s kind of like going to a Grand Guignol.
Wait, no politics.Report
Currently modding Fallout 3 for another play through. My first (and only) time through, I hit max level pretty easily and didn’t do many of the side quests or DLC. In addition to improving the appearance, the mods will make for a more challenging game with slower leveling, which will incentivize exploring the corners I missed.
I would love to be playing GTAV, but I’m going to hold out for the PC version.Report
Oh, you’re in for a treat. I absolutely adore that game and the sidequests *EASILY* make it twice as big. Three times, if you’re going to do the Kelley Family quest. (Dude: do the Kelley family quest.) And the wasteland survival guide! And the nuka-cola challenge! And…
(I’m one who plays sidequests compulsively, though. A friend asked me about heists in GTA V, and I told him that I hadn’t done it yet but I was in the middle of a grueling ironman. I’m currently doing some light bail bond work with Trevor.)Report
Finished Diablo III on Normal, started on the next difficulty level (Nightmare, I think). Normal was not too challenging, and after getting through the awkward teen levels, the Witch Doctor got to be fun to play. I am glad I stuck with it.
Yesterday, I ran a game of Descent (first edition) for my son and one of my friends. It went pretty badly for them rather quickly, even though I was not being as nasty as possible in my attempts to defeat them. My friend had not played before, and I think that was the biggest issue.Report
Still having a devil of a time getting the controls on GTA V to feel natural. I swing the camera when I mean to steer and the automatic camera swing makes me confuse which direction to steer in reverse. Experimenting with different sensitivities on the control did a good job of getting the kid dead on the father/son quest but eventually I got through it.
Stealing cars sure is easy in this game. Oh, and the language is ATROCIOUS. My friend let his seven-year-old son “play tennis” with him and promised his wife he’d insulate his son from the killing. But you know what? I don’t know you you could do that. And the proliferation of racial slurs alone is good enough reason to not expose a seven-year-old to this product.
Alas, I will need to set it aside until the weekend as real life returns on Monday.Report
