And yet, it was still a common place to play for me and my contemporaries, and none of us got tetanus. Possibly because we all got tetanus boosters more frequently than today’s “usual” interval. Like, if you got a puncture wound, they gave you a tetanus booster just in case. Didn’t help with this puncture wound, but boy were you safe when you got the next one nine months down the line. Plus iodine or Merthiolate. Red skin stains as a badge of courage.Report

This looks like a scene from my childhood. They were always building something, and I first learned to love buildings by playing on construction sites after school.Report
This is far from unknown to my childhood from the 80’s but in all fairness we mostly were trapped performing labor for the same sites. Certainly in modern times I imagine it’s uncommon and certainly would raise great shrieks about liability, hazard and morality from all corners. But children were more common back then and child deaths were more of a fact of life than a special tragedy.Report
