Mon Tiki Coast Cruise Update
OT readers and writers.
The nice thing about daysailing is your trips always go from Point A to Point A, which means you can adjust everything you do so that you can leave Point A on schedule and arrive back on Point A on schedule.
But once you start using a sailboat to go from Point A to Point B, well what I tell people is “If you want to use a sailboat as transportation, you have to get yourself into a 19th Century mindset about time and space.”
So then. What looks like is going to happen is that Mon Tiki is going to leave Montauk sometime in the next couple of weeks, sail west through Long Island Sound, pass through New York Harbor, go down the New Jersey coast to Barnegat Light and then rest a piece. From there we will sail to the mouth of the Delaware Bay, up the Delaware, across the canal to the top of the Chesapeake and on to a safe resting place in Rockhall MD.
I am hopeful this will all happen in the next month, in 2-4 stretches of sailing 1-2 days at a time.
All subject to revision depending on weather and resources, of course!
This area of the country is richly veined with buses and trains, so it should be pretty easy to jump on at Point A, even at the last minute, sail for a day to Point B, and then get back to Point A without to much effort or expense. Interested parties should email david at sailingmontauk dot com
