Glee Week 1 Back Review
I have to say my Glee predictions turned out to be truer and materialize faster than I had anticipated. They tried the failed we’re going to be popular/now we’re not slushy in the face move. Girls made out (as predicted). And the show felt flat. Here’s hoping this week’s episode is better.
“Here’s hoping this week’s episode is better.”
Answer: unfortunately, no.
My impression thus far of the first two episodes is:
– the musical numbers are shoehorned in an uncomfortably awkward manner.
– the blatant auto-tuning on said numbers is no longer just a nuisance for me and has instead become a major distraction that reinforces the awkwardness of the above
– the new plotlines somehow have the feel of being anti-climactic even before they’ve really gotten off the ground…they just seem like rehashes of time-worn high school drama memes, and outside of the reliably fantastic Jane Lynch, the acting just isn’t good enough to overcome this.
I’m still going to watch – the above criticisms notwithstanding, it’s not remotely at trainwreck levels – but I don’t see myself losing any sleep if I miss a few episodes, and I expect that season 2 will in fact reach trainwreck levels.Report
@Mark Thompson, seconded.Report
@Chris Dierkes, the only redeeming quality was there were still some zippy one liners. I love the stupid blonde cheerleader girl.Report
@Chris Dierkes, but the music is getting dreadful.Report
