The Best Cover of All Time – The Stragglers

Due to an influx of late nominations and a prior social engagement, I’m going to hold off posting my top 20 covers until tomorrow afternoon.

Aaron nominates (another) version of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You In The End,” this time from Spiritualized.

Brian submits Sinead O’Connor’s cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U”, adding that it’s “infinitely better” than Prince’s original version.

Pinky nominates another Gnarls Barkley cover, this time from Ray LaMontagne:

Lucas suggests Galaxie 500 covering New Order’s “Ceremony” and Sonic Youth’s version of The Carpenters’ “Superstar”:

Joey nominates The Go! Team’s cover of Sonic Youth’s “Bull in Heather,” Def Squad’s ballin’ take on The Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight,” Dinosaur Jr.’s version of Frampton’s “Show Me The Way,” The White Stripe’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” and The Dirtbombs playing Thin Lizzy’s “Ode to a Black Man” live:

Two other worthwhile music links: First, Metacritic says that Spoon’s albums were the best-reviewed of the decade, which is fitting because everything they’ve released since Girls Can Tell is awesome. Finally, Sonny Bunch chimes in with his best albums of the decade. Ignore the Something Corporate shout-out – a few of his other picks are pretty solid.
