Friday Night Jukebox: Random Rules Edition
From the great American road trip album (apologies for the bizarre imagery in the video):
Anyway, The Silver Jews are a pretty fantastic band. A few years ago, Neutral Milk Hotel’s “In the Aeroplane over the Sea” was the great, undiscovered indie rock gem of the 1990s. Since then, they’ve enjoyed something of a career renaissance (if such a thing is possible for a reclusive singer-songwriter who won’t perform his own songs), so I think The Silver Jews are now due for ‘unheralded classic’ status. Other than a few close friends, I can’t think of too many people who enjoy American Water, so get ahead of the curve and give it a listen.
Update.
Erik here. I couldn’t help myself. Sorry to invade your post Will. But perusing the vids that pop up after this song is another one for this song, which I’ve posted before below (typo…). Will apologized for the “weird imagery” in the above video. Others might find this one more…uhm…well, you’ll see.
Love this band, great call.Report
I’m sorry Will but I had to. The contrast between the two videos – for the same song (good song, too!) – is too funny.Report
Wow. Quite a YouTube gem.Report
Hey, this is “random rules edition”Report
You can delete my update if you want, though. It’s just as weird a juxtaposition as I’ve seen since they cast Sean Connery against Catherine Zeta Jones.Report
S’cool, E.D. Very comely.Report
Here’s the weird thing: While I love The League and enjoy all the posts, I almost never like the music you guys share. I don’t mean that as an insult, it’s just a matter of tastes. But man, I thought I was a pretty eclectic guy, but you all take it to a whole other level. And not in a way that pleases my ears.
Oh well…just keep writing great stuff and i’ll forgive the tunes.Report
I blame the Canadians, Mike.Report
Erik, you’ve often said that the League has kept you pretty busy as a blogger. I hadn’t realized what, exactly, you were being kept busy doing until now…Report
