Wow, that is some genuinely bad use of visuals on the Census site. They certainly do deserve credit for being the ones who got the data, but they could use some people with better design skills. If they hired a top-tier person for it, though, there’d just be complaints about the government wasting money again.Report
Also, keep in mind the different software budgets and rules. The feds don’t have the ability to allocate lots of funds to purchase shiny new toys, can’t get them all through IT regulations even if they do, and have to fragment budgets across departments, agencies, and bureaus. It’s often not hiring a “guy” that is needed; it’s upgrading from Windows XP and IE7 (or the equivalent).Report
