Hidden Talents
Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch composed and performed this song for long-time friend and Senate opponent Ted Kennedy –
That’s pretty impressive – both as a show of … not bipartisanship, per se, but rather the ability of people who disagree strongly to nevertheless work together, to be amicable, to dialogue, and yes, to compose songs for one another. Amazing. Apparently, Hatch has earned a platinum record for having sold over a million albums.

Aside from standing for everything I hate, Orrin Hatch is probably the greatest Senator. The song was written for Kennedy’s appearance at the 2008 DNC – http://bit.ly/me7sP – “The gesture – extremely unusual in a Congress that has become increasingly polarized along party lines – reflects the close relationship between the two veteran lawmakers, whose friendship and alliance on healthcare issues has baffled and maddened activists in both parties. The 76-year-old Kennedy, said the 74-year-old Hatch, “is like a brother to me.””
So that means Hatch’s vote is a lock for the HELP bill, right?Report
The most amazing thing about Ted Kennedy was most certainly Orrin Hatch and how much he and all Republicans everywhere loved Ted Kennedy. If only Ted Kennedy were around to make the “right compromises” on his health care bill, we could finally have the long-dreamt-of “bipartisan” health care solution that we all know Democratic extremism is going to prevent!Report
Orrin’s always been confused!
