Saturday!

Grim Fandango was one of those games that you’d be hard pressed to explain to another person. Sure, you could say “oh, it’s one of those point and click adventure games” and, yeah, it was one of those, but if asked “what’s the story about?” you’d have to hem and haw for a bit. “You know Mexico’s holiday called Day of the Dead?”, you might begin. And, hoo boy, if they haven’t? You might be struggling for a while.

In any case, it’s been remastered (mostly… some of the graphics haven’t been updated… mostly the backgrounds) and re-released. The gameplay itself? Well… I can totally see how someone who hasn’t spent hours within adventure games might say “how in the heck did you people play these so-called ‘games’ back then?” There have been serious advancements in interactive storytelling technologies since this game was originally made and if you are used to the advancements (who isn’t?) then you are quite likely to find the game as frustrating as it is rewarding.

Ah, but if you think you can remember not being familiar with the advancements? This game will make it easy to forget.
