Future!

SXSW has become a hip hop festival, like it or not (I love it!), and there was no better evidence of that for me than at the Spin Magazine unofficial showcase last Friday, where several rock and pop bands played around the sets of ScHoolboy Q and Future. The rock/pop shows were OK (Against Me! and Warpaint were worth seeing), but ScHoolboy Q was crowd surfing and, as Spin said of the Future show, “I’ve seen no purer output of collective joy in Austin than what we saw from this crowd during eight or so bars of the ‘Bugatti’ hook.” Rap shows are just more fun: the crowds are better, the artists interact with the crowd much more, and it is music that is meant to be danced to while you shout along with the performers.

Hell, I’m not even a Future fan and I couldn’t help but scream the songs at the top of my lungs while I jumped up and down next to a woman in a black body suit with a giant pink smiley face on her head. Like I said, rap shows are more fun. Oh, and B.o.B. and Bun B both made “surprise” appearances (I put “surprise” in scare quotes because B.o.B., Bun B, and Future had been popping up at each other’s shows all week. So for this week’s videos, have some Bugatti, and imagine jumping up and down to it with hundreds of other people who would rather be no where else in the world at that moment: (though not at work, because it’s filled with a lot of bad words, including the n-word):

I hope that this weekend you, too, wake up in a new Bugatti. Or at least a nice used Subaru.
