It’s on the Army & Police Now
A reader writes into Andrew Sullivan saying that the violence in Iran is entirely the work of the Basij (militias) and related paramilitaries, vigilantes, goons, etc. That so far the police and army are staying out. The real question as I said before (see Updates II and IV) is whether and at what point the army/police will engage and stop the paramilitaries from crushing the populace.
I’ve no doubt that the discussions in the lockerrooms at the police station and the barracks are intense and growing ever louder.
Well, at least, I pray (for lack of a better word) they are.Report
This could be a fart in a whirlwind, or it could be something huge that begins changing the region, as modernity pressures a medieval mindset — it’s difficult to tell.Report
The other key I think will be the ability to really shut down the economy through strike. Effective Strike + some defense from army/police=potential for serious changeReport
