        1. Johanna, my dear lady, if anything could lure me into trying it’d be the prospect of meeting you and buying a drink for the Prof. Believe me the constraints preventing my attending are quite iron clad else I’d have wriggled out of them by now.Report

    1. Hi Tod,

I’ll be over at a Marshall Crenshaw/Bottle Rockets concert, but if you’re up for a late jar I’d certainly love to shake your hand. Let me know.Report

      1. Oh man, Marshall Crenshaw?! I’ve always wanted to see him live!

My guess is that I’ll be up (West Coast inner clock and all that). If you like, I can shoot you an email so that if you decide to join up for a bit you have a way to get ahold of me.Report

        1. Please do. Do you have access to the emails used for comments?

Crenshaw not only has his own great stuff, he’s also an encyclopedia of 50’s rockabilly and country tunes. I once saw him play an old Ferlin Husky tune that probably only he and the band knew.Report

    2. Tod,

I renege on what I said about boating wear last time. Temperatures look to be unseasonably cool this weekend, about 10-15 degrees below the mean for this time of year, so it could be really cool on the water Saturday evening. Definitely take a sweater or jacket. A rain jacket might be a good idea, since water temps will be in the low ’60s, and there might be some spray.Report

        1. Remember – It’s Chicago and still 3 days away. It could be anything…

          Here’s the 7 day forcast: http://www.chicagoweathercenter.com/forecast/

          For Friday (as of Tuesday):
Mainly cloudy and continued very cool for the season.
Some sprinkles or a shower or two possible. Gusty northeast winds keep inland highs nearly 10 degrees in the middle 60s with 50s near the lake.

So, I’d suggest sweaters, jackets and hats. I’ll bring some extra fleeces, etc too.
Sunset is at 8:24pm, and the temps will drop after that as well.Report

        1. I’m not sure we can come, so I’d hate to recommend something and then not show up. Strangely enough, even though my wife works very close to that Hyatt, we usually don’t go out much in that area (except for Chipotle, which is a good restaurant, but probably not what you’re looking for).Report

  1. Two things:

One, you guys and gals should put up a Flickr account or something and share photos which is something we didn’t think of in Vegas.

Two, a friendly Leaguecast is in order. I suggest you debate the merits of your dessert choices from the Saturday dinner.

Okay, three things: have fun, you crazy kids!Report

    1. Pat,

Johanna and I will be in SoCal in late July. Any interest in meeting? (Warning: I’ll only be there a few week nights, and we’ll be n the Valencia area, so I’d understand if a meetup was too inconvenient for you.)Report

        1. Actually, we’ll be in Saugus, but no one’s heard of that. Just don’t let Johanna hear you say good things about Valencia. Local rivalries and whatnot. 😉Report

  2. Mark,

We will probably be able to make it to the Hyatt by then, if we don’t run into any traffic problems on our way in. (We can’t just leave earlier because we have to drop the kids off for their last day of school.). So expect us, but don’t be surprised if we need to do will call.Report

  3. All the years I lived in Chicago and I think I visited the Art Institute once. Definitely something I want to do. My sister actually got her MFA in film from the Art Institute.Report

  4. Is there anyone here that would object to me using their email addresses to come up with a Leaguefest email group? It could be an easy way to coordinate things on the go, but if people don’t want their email addresses shared* with others going to the event I would want to leave them off.

    * or worse, co-mingling without adult supervision!Report

  5. You know, I don’t leave town until Monday. If anyone is around on Sunday and wants to hang, let me know.Report

  6. I am actually going to be in town this weekend ( I live in the Northern suburbs of Chicago) and would love to meet some of the Leaguers.

I am assuming the sailboat is full, but may be able to meet you guys for the Blues Fest and dinner, assuming there are slots still available at the table. If not that is OK too, as I did not confirm earlier.

Sorry for not RSVPing earlier. I travel lots and really wasn’t expecting to be in town this weekend.Report

          1. I’ve lived in Chicagoland for over ten years and absolutely love the weather and location for at east six months of each. Luckily I can travel a lot to warmer climes the other times. I also lived up in Gurnee for a year back in the eighties.Report

      1. Would there be a couple more spaces at dinner? We’ll be staying with my husband’s best friend from college (Eugene) and his new wife (Natasha–a former model who looks like a Bond girl). Another crazy Russian who likes to talk politics. They’ll likely come along with us to the Blues Festival.Report

        1. Michelle – I think we have enough space for two more. I made the reservations for 12, and I think Roger makes 10. If it turns out I miscounted by one, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be a problem to add an extra chair to the table.Report

          1. Thanks Mark. We’re really looking forward to meeting everyone. And perhaps Eugene and Vlad can explain to Todd the mysterious appeal of Steven Seagal to the Russian soul.Report
