Leaguefest Final Schedule and Meeting Places!
It’s hard to believe we’re just four days away from the start of Leaguefest. Below the fold is the final schedule. If you are planning on attending any events at all over the weekend, please confirm below, so I can email you all my cell number in case anyone has a hard time finding us. Obviously, everyone is free to plan their own excursions and no one should feel obligated to attend any of the Saturday events if they prefer to do something else (obviously, the Friday events are a different story).
FRIDAY, JUNE 7
Cubs game at Wrigley Field
Meet up time and place: 12:15 PM, Hyatt Regency hotel lobby. If you reserved a ticket for the game but can’t meet at the Hyatt at 12:15, then we’ll leave your ticket(s) at the will-call window at Wrigley and you can meet us inside; I expect trying to get everyone to meet outside Wrigley itself will be near-impossible. With a little bit of luck, I’ll be able to get a bowler hat in time for the trip for identification purposes for this and all events.
Sailboat cruise
Meet up time and place: 5:45 PM, Belmont Harbor, slip D-2. Let me know if you need directions. The cruise is set to begin at 6.
The location and time of any post-cruise carousing is TBD.
SATURDAY, JUNE 8
Chicago Institute of Art
Meet up time and place: 10:45 AM, front steps of the museum.
Chicago Blues Festival
Meet up time and place: 2:30 PM, Hyatt Regency hotel lobby. The Blues Festival is just a few blocks from the hotel, so we’ll walk from the hotel to the festival.
Dinner
Meet up time and place: 7:15 PM, Atwood Cafe, 1 West Washington Street (next to the Hotel Burnham). Reservations are for 7:30 PM. I tentatively made the reservations for 12 people, which should give us a little bit of room for error if we wind up with an extra person or two who didn’t respond to last week’s survey on dinner plans.
The location and time of any post-dinner carousing is TBD.
I’m so excited! I love to travel. I can’t wait to go to the airport!!!Report
I should probably stop reading these posts if I don’t want to get hopelessly bummed out, shouldn’t I?Report
A wise prescription Doc but neither of us seem to be able to adhere to it. Physician heal thyself!Report
It is still not too late for a road trip!Report
Yeah. I’m bummed that neither of you guys is coming.Report
Johanna, my dear lady, if anything could lure me into trying it’d be the prospect of meeting you and buying a drink for the Prof. Believe me the constraints preventing my attending are quite iron clad else I’d have wriggled out of them by now.Report
Can’t blame me for trying!Report
I’ll put this out there again: anyone in town Thursday night that wants to meet for a bite or a glass (or both) let me know.Report
I will also be in town Thursday night.Report
Woo hoo! And I believe Angela will also be in the neighborhood.Report
Yup. Pick a time. I’m assuming the place is the Hyatt.Report
Yup. To be safe, I’m thinking maybe 6:00-7:00ish? Flight gets in at 5:00, so with shuttle waiting, traffic, check in, shower if I’m too gamey, etc…Report
Hi Tod,
I’ll be over at a Marshall Crenshaw/Bottle Rockets concert, but if you’re up for a late jar I’d certainly love to shake your hand. Let me know.Report

Oh man, Marshall Crenshaw?! I’ve always wanted to see him live!
My guess is that I’ll be up (West Coast inner clock and all that). If you like, I can shoot you an email so that if you decide to join up for a bit you have a way to get ahold of me.Report
Please do. Do you have access to the emails used for comments?
Crenshaw not only has his own great stuff, he’s also an encyclopedia of 50’s rockabilly and country tunes. I once saw him play an old Ferlin Husky tune that probably only he and the band knew.Report
I’ve never seen him, but one of my favorite CDs is a live recording of him doing an acoustic set at the Stone Pony. Great stuff.
And yeah, I have everyone’s emails. IF there’s a different address than the one you use to comment here, let me know: rtodkelly@mac.comReport
Tod,
I renege on what I said about boating wear last time. Temperatures look to be unseasonably cool this weekend, about 10-15 degrees below the mean for this time of year, so it could be really cool on the water Saturday evening. Definitely take a sweater or jacket. A rain jacket might be a good idea, since water temps will be in the low ’60s, and there might be some spray.Report
Thanks!Report
I am a little disappointed by the weather forecast 🙁Report
Remember – It’s Chicago and still 3 days away. It could be anything…
Here’s the 7 day forcast: http://www.chicagoweathercenter.com/forecast/
For Friday (as of Tuesday):
Mainly cloudy and continued very cool for the season.
Some sprinkles or a shower or two possible. Gusty northeast winds keep inland highs nearly 10 degrees in the middle 60s with 50s near the lake.
So, I’d suggest sweaters, jackets and hats. I’ll bring some extra fleeces, etc too.
Sunset is at 8:24pm, and the temps will drop after that as well.Report
Tod,
If you have a place/time in mind, I, and perhaps my wife, might be able to come. (Maybe not. This week unfortunately is kind of busy for us, but we’d like to try to meet.)Report
I would to meet you guys. If there’s a place near the Hyatt you recommend that would be likely to entice you out, let me know.Report
I’m not sure we can come, so I’d hate to recommend something and then not show up. Strangely enough, even though my wife works very close to that Hyatt, we usually don’t go out much in that area (except for Chipotle, which is a good restaurant, but probably not what you’re looking for).Report
Alas, my wife and I probably won’t be able to meet up on Thursday night. But I hope you all have a good time.Report
Two things:
One, you guys and gals should put up a Flickr account or something and share photos which is something we didn’t think of in Vegas.
Two, a friendly Leaguecast is in order. I suggest you debate the merits of your dessert choices from the Saturday dinner.
Okay, three things: have fun, you crazy kids!Report
Pat,
Johanna and I will be in SoCal in late July. Any interest in meeting? (Warning: I’ll only be there a few week nights, and we’ll be n the Valencia area, so I’d understand if a meetup was too inconvenient for you.)Report
Valencia is awesome. All the best people are from Valencia.Report
Actually, we’ll be in Saugus, but no one’s heard of that. Just don’t let Johanna hear you say good things about Valencia. Local rivalries and whatnot. 😉Report
All. The. Best. People.Report
Snobbery. That is sooo Valencha.Report
Oh, I forgot. Well, maybe there was one decent person there, once upon a time in the distant past. One.Report
Yes, but there’s a but. Fire me off an email.Report
I don’t have it, but mine is jhanley@adrian.edu.Report
Mark,
We will probably be able to make it to the Hyatt by then, if we don’t run into any traffic problems on our way in. (We can’t just leave earlier because we have to drop the kids off for their last day of school.). So expect us, but don’t be surprised if we need to do will call.Report
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it by 12:15 either. Probably.Report
All the years I lived in Chicago and I think I visited the Art Institute once. Definitely something I want to do. My sister actually got her MFA in film from the Art Institute.Report
Mark,
I won’t be able to do most of the events (and I didn’t rsvp for them at any rate), but I might be able to go to the Art Institute on Saturday morning.Report
It’d be great to see you again, and I’d love to meet your wife if she came.Report
Is there anyone here that would object to me using their email addresses to come up with a Leaguefest email group? It could be an easy way to coordinate things on the go, but if people don’t want their email addresses shared* with others going to the event I would want to leave them off.
* or worse, co-mingling without adult supervision!Report
Mine’s publicly available anyway, so no worries here.Report
I have no objection.Report
No objection here.Report
That’s fineReport
You know, I don’t leave town until Monday. If anyone is around on Sunday and wants to hang, let me know.Report
I am actually going to be in town this weekend ( I live in the Northern suburbs of Chicago) and would love to meet some of the Leaguers.
I am assuming the sailboat is full, but may be able to meet you guys for the Blues Fest and dinner, assuming there are slots still available at the table. If not that is OK too, as I did not confirm earlier.
Sorry for not RSVPing earlier. I travel lots and really wasn’t expecting to be in town this weekend.Report
( I live in the Northern suburbs of Chicago
Grayslake? Libertyville?Report
Close… Vernon Hills, which is right next to Libertyville.Report
When I was a kid, my grandparents lived in Grayslake. I used to love it up there, except for the horse flies.Report
I’ve lived in Chicagoland for over ten years and absolutely love the weather and location for at east six months of each. Luckily I can travel a lot to warmer climes the other times. I also lived up in Gurnee for a year back in the eighties.Report
Dude, it’s Roger the Libertarian. Where else but libertyville could it be?Report
Awesome – it looks like we’ll definitely have space for you at dinner.Report
Would there be a couple more spaces at dinner? We’ll be staying with my husband’s best friend from college (Eugene) and his new wife (Natasha–a former model who looks like a Bond girl). Another crazy Russian who likes to talk politics. They’ll likely come along with us to the Blues Festival.Report
Michelle – I think we have enough space for two more. I made the reservations for 12, and I think Roger makes 10. If it turns out I miscounted by one, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be a problem to add an extra chair to the table.Report
Thanks Mark. We’re really looking forward to meeting everyone. And perhaps Eugene and Vlad can explain to Todd the mysterious appeal of Steven Seagal to the Russian soul.Report
Woo hoo!!!Report
