Saturday Juke Joint
Not sure if I’m breaking (bending?) League protocols, but I thought I bring a little of them blues into the mix. Featured artist is Buddy Guy (his wiki here), one the last of the classic Chicago bluesmen. In his early years he was somewhat overshadowed by the presences of Muddy Waters, BB King, and the like, but as you can see in these two videos was a match for any. Both of the videos are from the 1970 film Chicago Blues which add a whole other layer to the music–a visceral layer so close after the riots.
In this one he sings his classic First Time I Met the Blues with his signature thrown high voice merged with insane playing at the end.
The second with his long time collaborator Junior Wells on the harp: these are some greasy, nasty licks for yo’ Saturday.
Update I: In honor of Dave
Buddy Guy + LSD = Jimi Hendrix.
My favorite Buddy Guy album is Stone Crazy.Report
If Chicago-style Blues is a violation of our protocol, find me ther person making it and I’ll have a “conversation” with him. 😉Report
