I hope you found making this post even a fraction as soothing (in the gut sense, not the surface sense) as I’m finding it to listen to.

1.) Hey, I forgot about these guys. I only have The Platform, which has this little number:

2.) You know I don’t know much about Kanye, or Twitter, but over at AVClub someone was commenting that if you just add ‘, Liz Lemon!” to the end of all Kanye’s tweets, they become Tracy Jordan.

3.) Dan Savage is often ALSO NSFW, but I think that might be a different guy.Report

I hadn’t forgotten them, but I definitely thought they were over. Now I’m kind of curious about what they’ve been doing in the meantime.

Oh, and Kanye is awesome. He’s sort of like Prince in that it’s not clear that he lives on the same planet as the rest of us, but it seems like there’s a pretty smart guy in there, it’s just hard to understand what that smart guy is saying sometimes. Much of the time, maybe.

      For example:

“Cuz my life is dope, and I do dope shit.” Click.Report

I admit: I’ve spent tonight listening to, in order:

    The Cure: Disintegration
    The Sisters of Mercy: Floodland
    Peter Murphy: Deep

I spent more than a few seconds looking at Saint Andrew’s sunglasses on the cover of Floodland and marveling at the fact that they don’t reflect anything at all… maybe they’re, like, a couple of leather eyepatches on frames. Which would be, like, awesome. I mean, in 1988 or something. Not today.Report

Imagine set of steps, easily climbed
The tower of pride, the plastic of mind

You probably knew this already, but I only learned recently that that Sisters album was Jim Steinman. Goth Loaf.

It explained a lot, when I learned that.Report

Here is my deepest secret: I love Steinman’s stuff. Some people look at the amount of bombast in music and ask “why?”. Some people look at the amount of bombast in music and say “WE NEED ABOUT ANOTHER TWENTY OF THOSE”.

Sometimes I agree with the latter, when the sun has gone down.Report

@jaybird My father and I don’t have remarkably similar taste in music. It’s not the usual generation gap, though there is some of that.

Jim Steinman, though? We both love Jim Steinman. Dad didn’t even know who Steinman was, though, until I told him. I just noticed on his MP3 list he had a number of Steinman songs. When I told him he was like “Are you kidding me? Total Eclipse of the Heart, Making Love out of Nothing At All, It’s All Coming Back to Me, and I Won’t Do That were all written by the same person?! I need to find out every song he ever wrote.”

Blew his mind. Especially given that some of those were the only songs he liked by some of those artists.

I was actually thinking about rounding up some Steinman songs for a Mindiv post.Report

I’m not particularly a Steinman or Sisters fan, so looking at Jaybird’s playlist, all I can say is: Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.Report
