Glyph
Glyph is worse than some and better than others. He believes that life is just one damned thing after another, that only pop music can save us now, and that mercy is the mark of a great man (but he's just all right). Nothing he writes here should be taken as an indication that he knows anything about anything.

Normally I would be writing something about how much I resent the heck out of the fact that the rest of the country gets east coast reruns (or, more precisely, a re-run of the dropping of the Big Apple).
But I’m actually on the east coast this year, for the first time in my adult life, so the Big Apple’s drop is my drop.
Except that I don’t actually have TV reception at the moment, and can’t watch it.Report
And it came and went. Alas, I spent it alone (with the dog). Clancy is working the overnight. The baby, who I was planning to let stay up until after midnight for the occasion and our first New Years awake together, inexplicably fell asleep on my lap while I watched the basketball game. So, just me and the dog (and fireworks outside terrifying the dog).Report
My dogs are not fans of this date.
I think they somehow sense its approach, they seemed twitchy earlier today.Report
It’s 10:00 p.m. in California, and Natasha went to bed an hour and a half ago. I’ve got two dogs licking their own paws for company to ring in the new year. Oh, and the last of the egg nog, and y’all here on the blog.
Once upon a time I’d have been out with friends. Now I feel pretty damn boring.Report
No spoilers about the new year. Its only 920 here. The random neighborhood fireworks have started and the wife is with one of the cats at the pet emergency room.I feel for the wife, i offered to go with her. The cats are meh at best.Report
Now I feel pretty damn boring.
The last time I was out on New Year’s Eve was at our property in Texas about ten years ago. We had a house warming party – we’d just finished drying it in a couple weeks earlier – and folks showed up with booze and substances and *lots of fireworks*. Out in the desert on a beautiful warm night, mesquite logs burning in the fire pit, roman candles flaring in unexpected directions, running around dousing spot fires with expensive beer. That was a fun night.
Since then, New Years is mostly a reason for me to *not go out*, given the high levels of crazy and all.Report
You were drinking beer and didn’t have anything else to put out the fire with besides the beer?Report
@stillwater , why did your new house need drying? Was it packaged in oil or something?Report
