As is often the case, Beasties got there first.
Though you could make a case that disco never “revives”, because it never died. It just keeps changing into a different fabulous outfit.

My original version of this had videos from The Clash and Rick James, with a sort of “70s dance music never died, we just hid it” sort of theme, but I couldn’t figure out how to weave it all together. But I think it’s safe to say that disco can never die.Report
The Beastie Boys did love them some 70’s.
This is, IMO, one of the best videos of all time. I cannot stop laughing as I watch it.Report
Man, I forgot about Nightmares on Wax. That’s a nice tune. This one used to get a lot of play around here:
Report
Ah, that’s nice.
For obvious reasons, when I’m trying to find songs, I always get Nightmares on Wax and Wax Tailor mixed up:

You’ve seen this, right?

Argh, I think I pulled a hammy.Report
That’s the worst. I’d rather get a gluteal sprain than that.
What I am saying is that I’d prefer to injure my moon, over my hammy.Report
The dude at 0:28-0:35 (he shows up again later, too) is my hero. I love that guy.Report
Just presently they seem to be going more decades-salad (a genre of which Janelle Monae is the queen*), but for the longest time in the 2000’s, Scissor Sisters were the first people I thought of when someone said nu-disco.
Here’s 2010:

and here’s a live performance from 2004:

That reminds me, I have some Janelle Monae to rip in. Anybody heard the newest one? And why isn’t she a bigger deal, she seems really interesting to me?Report
Isn’t she a big deal? her albums and singles have all charted, and just about every one of her videos has hits on YouTube > a million…
I’d love to see her reach Lady Gaga heights of fame, but I don’t think she’s as accessible – about half of her songs are too much – too many things going on at once – for me the first time I hear them. (Never the second time.)Report
She may be a bigger deal than I realized. I got the impression she’s kind of niche. Is she bigger overseas or something? Or am I just way out of touch with youth culture (A: Yes)? I just never seem to see or hear much about her, and I think she’s pretty talented. I mean, she’s a bit eccentric, but so were Prince and Outkast (to name two obvious antecedents).Report
