Attention League (Board) Gaming Geeks!
I am trying to gauge whether there would be sufficient interest for an online League game of Diplomacy at playdiplomacy.com. If at least six people respond to this post and express interest, then I’ll set the game up and post the log-in information in the comments section. To ensure that it isn’t too time-consuming, the game will be set up for 48 hour orders phases, and 24 hour build and retreat phases, though phases will end once all orders are submitted and finalized to speed things up a bit.
I’m in.Report
Have you ever played Diplomacy online? I tried once, though we made the fatal mistake of not having a time limit; so the game stretched on and on as people debated and got really into their characters. I did a lot of research on Russian uniforms of the time. I would be interested in trying again.Report
Yeah, I was just introduced to the game a few weeks ago, and I immediately opened an account online. Playdiplomacy seems to have a pretty user-friendly setup, and it’s been extremely enjoyable playing there for me.
We need three more!Report
I’m in, too.Report
Screw it, I’m down. I’m assuming we’ll get email notifications regarding turns etc.? What’s the policy on trash talk?Report
Yes, we’ll definitely get e-mail notifications.
There are both public and private message boards within the game, so there are ample opportunities for trash talk. I think you’re supposed to keep the in-game public boards PG-13 though.Report
Policy? A man that needs a policy for trash talk is a man that couldn’t backstab his way out of a wet paper bag. 😉Report
The gauntlet has been thrown down, Sir.Report
We need just two more! Jaybird? Pat Cahalan? You know you want to!Report
Sure, I can use a little imperial warmongering.Report
Believe it or not, I don’t play well with others.
I’ll put out the call on MD, though.Report
It’s all good – we’ve got a full game going. Thanks, though.Report
Wish I knew how to play and had more time.Report

We still need one more, but because I’m an optimistic sort, I’ve set the game up.
The game name is Ordinary Gents, password is bowlerhats. Game number 29520.Report
Can’t find it via search.Report
Never mind, found it. I’m in.Report
I’d like to play. What kind of time commitment are we talking about?Report
It shouldn’t be much of a daily time commitment with the deadlines I’ve set up – you’ll never have to enter more than one set of moves a day. Obviously the amount of time you spend negotiating and talking smack is up to you.
Most likely it will take around a month to complete, though if everyone finalizes their orders quickly, it will take a lot less time.Report
I guess I’m the odd man out? I would like to play if there is anymore interest or if there happens to be a second game.
http://www.diplom.org has quite a few diplomacy resources such as info on variants, maps, and strategy articles. And it was also the sight through which I’ve played previous games of e-mail diplomacy.Report
I’m not sure whether Christopher Carr counts as being fully in, so whoever the first seven to sign up for the game may be are in!Report
Also – diplom.org is pure evil. By which of course I mean “pure awesome time-wasting genius.”Report
I just joined. There are still two spots left.Report
Did you folks start already? I’m having trouble finding the game.Report
The game has started. I’m scheming furiously as we speak.Report
Is there any way to spectate? Or will there be a second game? Online diplomacy got me through my 2L year at law school with sanity intact.Report
Mark, Are you planning a second game later on?Report
Kyle, Sky, and Will (and anyone else for that matter):
Due to a glitch in the first game, we had to start a new game, but it looks like two of the original seven aren’t going to join the new game, so we have two spots open for whoever wants to grab them first.
The new game is called “Ordinary Gents Redo”, game number 29751, password “bowlers”.Report
I’d like to still participate on the second game, if there’s still space available. I’ll try to sign up.
(If I can’t do it, not a big deal.)Report
I was wondering what happened to you!Report
