Anyone using Ubuntu?
Just started using Ubuntu 10.10 and I really like it, but I can’t stream on Netflix which just seems absurd. Other than that I think it’s a pretty great OS.

Glad you have been assimilated.Welcome. I’ve been using one or another linux system for a couple years now. In general they are much better then windows. Its really unfortunate there are odd little things that we can’t do on linux, streaming on Netflix is one of them.
FWIW i prefer Kubuntu over plain Ubuntu, but that is mostly superficial. I use it on my laptop. Once you get really used to it, its hard to go back to windows. The only reasons i ever boot into Win. is for a voice chat program other people chose in a movie riffing group i take part in and also to do a couple small things on my ipod touch which i can’t do in unbuntu.Report
The onerous DRM required for Netflix playback is not (yet?) supported on Linux. Whether it can be made to work thru Wine or some other scheme, I don’t know.
But welcome to the club!Report
Netflix doesn’t work in Wine, so you’ll still need Windows, Mac, or a PS3/Wii/360 for it.
But yeah welcome to the club, Ubuntu is a fine OS.Report
Netflix Watch Instantly uses a proprietary DRM based implementation of Microsoft Silverlight that isn’t even supported by all Windows browsers.
It’s about as ridiculous as Skype for Android being locked to Verizon phones in the US. Which is to say that nowadays, the biggest drawbqck of going open source is that you often end up locked out of monopolistic deals between proprietary development platforms with vested interests in keeping things closed.Report
I like PC Linux OS better than Ubuntu. I have tried many forms of linux over the last decade.Report
