Black Friday was not a thing in my family. It is not something that I get or see the appeal of. Why wait outside in the blistering cold and black dark when you can be inside? The Vox link doesn’t really do much to explain its appeal. The shopping seems to be at random, a look for deals rather than things that are needed or wanted. From what I’ve read about it previously, this is the norm. The biggest sales item on Black Friday is apparently towels. Towels are good and necessary but you don’t need to buy them every year.Report

Canada is starting to get black friday sales now apparently even though it’s unrelated to our Thanksgiving.

Boxing Day sales are still a bigger thing though. We sometimes go do some shopping on Boxing day, specifically at places that don’t do Boxing Day sales – it’s so nice and quiet at those stores…Report

Walmart doesn’t want to be turned into a homeless camp and would rather take the PR hit now. That’s… probably wise of them.Report
