I think that’s about right. Romney did a better job of selling himself to the center than he has in the past. Good on him. This line tho:

I’m looking at him square in the eye and I say this, “You coulda ended this one tonight, kid, and you didn’t do it.

is exactly right. Obama had a chance to blow a huge hole in the middle of Romney’s entire platform, and didn’t. I’d heard commentary that maybe Obama was caught off guard by the extent of Romney’s lies, and that might account for why he didn’t go in for the knockout. Sorta mystifying that he didn’t, really.Report

Given Romney’s history of blatant lying, how could Obama not be prepared. Especially on the Medicare stuff?Report

The Pollyanna’s are saying that this was an intentional mail in performance by Obama because if he’s knocked Romney out in the debate then all that money would have bailed Romney and poured into the House and Senate fights. So instead Obama soft balled to keep hope alive (for Romney) and keep the money in the GOP presidential campaign. Me, I think this is pie in the sky.

Personally I think Obama is just a weak debater. He was mediocre back when he was flying high on Hope and Change pixie dust; he’s even more mediocre now when he has to do the Presidency job first and can’t focus much on debate prep. A pity for him, Romney spun and reserved and flat out lied repeatedly, a good debater would have nailed him to the wall~ Obama missed the boat.

Good on Romney for his win, now it’s just a question as to if this was dramatic or decisive enough to bleed into the polls.Report
