I am one of those who likes to take vacation at once and go do something or visit somewhere. We generally alternative between going to Wisconsin to visit family and taking a week at a timeshare in Lake Tahoe. Next week promises to be just as hectic as the last five have been, but after that, it’s up to the lake. Hopefully I can read, write, cook, and relax.Report

The TV season is coming to an end, so I am thinking I need to work on getting through Daredevil so that I’m ready for it.

I’ve got to get more chores done around the house.

A success: Thrice this week, Lain has slept through the night in her own bed without coming to join me. This is big league success, I’m kind of sheepish to say.

Another success: We got some medication! It’s a success because we had to order it from across the country. Not that it isn’t available out here. It’s pretty common. But she couldn’t get in to see a physician to get a prescription for it and it was both extremely urgent and important. So she had to call her old doctor in Arapaho, who consulted over the phone. He couldn’t prescribe out here, so he talked to a local pharmacy that shipped it. It arrived today. Yay!

Lain now has a drawing desk.Report

Dude, we just finished episode 8 of Daredevil (the one that ended with the press conference).

I am surprised at how awesome this show is.

      Seriously, I was never a Daredevil fan.Report

I actually know someone who wrote Daredevil for a bit…

Apparently I am a five year and will be spending the next few days locked away so I don’t give anyone at my germ factory work or my son’s germ factory school pink eye. Happy Mother’s Day to me. 🙁 I feel disgusting

I have theater tickets Saturday so I will definitely be there and I shouldn’t be contagious because I’ll have taken antibiotics for over 24 hours, so that’s good. I’m working my second job Sunday, and I’ll just die if I don’t get to see my boyfriend. I’m a very whiny, needy and pathetic person when I’m sick. I need him listen to me say “I’m dying” over and over again until I’m better. I don’t know why, it just makes me feel better. Lucky fella 😉Report

I’m a dribs and drabs guy for vacation, at least in principle. Having a wife and kids, it doesn’t always work out that way. My idea of a good time is spending the day in a research library. I find microfilm relaxing. Sometimes this can be done on a Saturday, but a lot of institutions are only open during the week, so I will take a day off here and there.

My next such trip will be to the Pennsylvania state archives. In 1874 Dave Eggler played for the Philadelphia Base Ball Club. They ran out of money, so Eggler was not fully paid. He sued, and lost. The defense was that his contract was not valid, because the person who signed it for the club was not authorized to do this (notwithstanding that he was the club president). I’ve known about the case in a general sense for a long time, and at one point made some inquiries about the Philadelphia archives, which include some court papers but not this one. C’est la vie. I recently stumbled across the fact that the case made it to the state supreme court, and included an affidavit listing all the shareholders. I want that list! So I made inquiries with the state archives, and got a response that this definitely maybe perhaps is in there, so I will have to go look. This is my idea of a vacation day well spent!Report

I have to work tomorrow, which is doubly irritating to me because I’ve always been the “you get me for 40 a week, and that’s enough” guy and the “it’s not my problem that your release schedule departs dramatically from reality” guy. Couple that with the fact that, due to changing circumstances, this weekend’s work will be ultimately meaningless and that I’m nearing my limit in dealing with the engineers on this project (and I acknowledge that some of my shortness is entirely childish) and I’m left with a crappy attitude. But…I volunteered because if I didn’t do it, one of the other admins would have had to and I didn’t think that was fair. But! Once work is done, we’re expecting dinner guests so Saturday should at least end on a good note.Report

I’m mostly on the day-here-two-days-there side. Music festivals usually are three to five days only two of which are a weekend. I like camping but I don’t want to spend four weeks camping at once, etc.

This weekend, the basement ceiling is coming down and sound damping going in, the renovation plans having taken the usual course of renovation plans: first it was just the floor, then the floor and walls, and now the ceiling is in scope too. Also leveling the sub-floor, picking up the flooring, and possibly installing it though possibly that will wait till Monday.Report

An after-the-fact report rather than anticipation: painted the popcorn ceiling in my granddaughter’s room on Saturday, so I have some stiff places; it’s warm enough this morning that I don’t have to shovel last night’s four inches of snow. Small snapshot of the snow here. Traditional Front Range gardening wisdom says never set your plants out before Mothers Day.Report
