I think you’re attaching too much importance to the word “color,” which is an arbitrary social construct and reinforces both traditional in-group verus out-group privileges as well as invidious economic inequality.

    …Oh, wait. Wrong discussion topic.

If it’s just you, that sounds like something has been corrupted in your firmware.Report

Looks like you got the version of AndroidOS intended for people of delBySFR.Report

Alien overlords and secret codes; I’m guessing you’re calling the mothership every time you type ‘color.’

stop that, revert to a binary black/white world, or we’ll all perish or be slaves to the delBySFR’s by the end of today’s game.Report

Since I happen to know from Twitter that Mr. Truman is certifiable when it comes to using multiple email clients and browsers at once, I suspect that his problem originates there.

There are three SFR references I find on a Google search for Android, one an Emal app, one a Wifi app, and one a club of some kind. I’m not confident that any will explain it, but it one or the other might be a start – tho for all we know it’s the residue of an attempted fix of some SFR conflict by one of the aforesaid clients and apps – or something totally different!

One detective operation would be to enter the word or words EXACTLY as found, into a machine-wide text-search. I’ve never done it on an Android phone, but I’m confident it’s doable. Not sure how long it will take. Should turn up the key suspect file or files.

Anyway, most likely explanation is someone or thing is interfering, probably with a Javascript is my guess, probably with the best of intentions or maybe just by sloppy coding and not intentionally at all, in Mr Truman’s page rendering. It’s obvious enough that it may be corrected by the time I finish this post, and the next time Trumwill restarts his phone.Report

It’s been going on for months now, so I done think a reboot will fix. Not sure I understand your suggestion able doing a search.Report

Well, that’s a horse of a different delbySFR, but my approach would be the same to finding the problem.

Apparently, Android doesn’t ship with a Windows-like global search capacity, but there are apps you can download from Google Play that will provide it. What I mean is that, if I had a problem like this on my desktop or say, on a web site, of mysterious origin, but identifiable by a particular piece of text that cropped up on the “front end,” I’d try a global text search, including programs and hidden files and so on, of everything in the particular universe (desktop machine or all files on site) – or, if I had a good guess as to the likeliest locations – Program Files, say – I’d localize it that way. Sooner or later, if lucky sooner, files containing “delbySFR” would turn up, and probapossibly tell me which program or application I should try disabling or removing.Report

      • The theory is that the piece of software that is overwriting “color” has the string “delBySFR” embedded in it. Or at least, some piece of data/code that when treated as a string comes out as “delBySFR”. If there’s only one occurrence and it’s in a file accessed by only a single app, it tells you which thing you need to uninstall and reinstall.Report

They alternative, amusingly worst practice approach, would be to write and install a script that automatically converted all occurrences of “delbySFR” to “color.”Report

Which, once applied to itself, would convert all occurrences of “color” to “color” 🙂Report

If everyone can just stay using the British spelling, It spotless be greatly appreciated.

Except when it mangled a URL, I find the problem more odd than annoying. Fortunately, it replaces color with a word that I am not going to have trouble identifying.

Though this particular comment section has mostly involved not using the phone.

It’s just such a weird error to have.Report

    • CK MacLeod in reply to Will Truman says:

Am now guessing someone involved with the initials SFR or with a company or app abbreviated SFR or who uses SFR to refer to someone or thing or user or process wrote a script meant to delete or mark deletions by/related to SFR with a color-coding of some type, and a tip or alt or title identifying the deleter, but left out an apostrophe or double-apostrophe or other critical character – which’s why you’d want to sleuth around as suggested, or maybe carefully delineate the precise contexts (app/environment) when it occurred, see if re-produced under similar but non-identical situations, as could also be browser-specific add-on.Report
