I see we’re still putting the killer’s photo on the front page and doing an in depth of him. Maybe we’ll shift from schools to newsrooms and then have enough shot up that the media will finally realize they’re fueling this.

And yes, I know, this ass**** had a specific grudge so he might not have been seeking fame.Report

@dark-matter What? They literally left the front page blank except for an in memoriam and the linked article has the victim’s pictures on it, not the killer’s….

Or are you talking about something else?

ETA: My mistake, If you click through to the full page spread, the killer is in the photo (I think?) and they do reference him. Still I think this is about 600X less killer-centered than the coverage I’ve seen in the past.Report

Other sites and outlets seem to be following suit, and there appears to be a bit of a trend.

I hope they stick with it, and I hope it helps. (And even if it doesn’t, I think it’s proper to give these guys much less attention.)Report

I saw two sites which had his full picture, name and agenda and it looked a LOT like same-old same-old, at least at first. Drudge has removed him… but the top of google news (not selecting for anything) is the following:

    • Speaking only for me, since I posted this, I wasn’t going to post his name or picture, thus went with the editorial page instead of the front page. It’s deep enough in the links if people really want it. It seems a trend is developing to not name and show these folks, at least until they are in custody or in a courtroom setting or the like. Obviously this specific case seems to be a long held individual grudge, but as a general rule I do not plan on using name or picture of shooters in a manner that could be construed as making them the focus. Again, just me, others are free to act/feel differently.Report

        Thank you, and well done.

I suspect we’ll have to have a dozen more newsrooms shot up before the media understands they’re part of the problem.

Edit: And to be clear, I was annoyed at his coverage long before you created this site’s post. I wasn’t talking about you specifically.Report
