Saturday Videos: Stars!!
October 14th is when Stars, the best thing to come out of Montreal since Mordecai Richler, releases their new album.
Here is the first video from their new album. The song is called From the Night, the album is called No One is Lost:
Next up comes their first big song. Hailing from the mid-aughts here is Your Ex-Lover is Dead:
This video channels the art of Joseph Cornell and a bit of Rube Goldberg. Have a listen to Backlines:

I will never understand the connection between indie pop and Ordinary Times….Report
There are contributors to OT who also like Indie-Rock/Pop.Report
That’s what I mean. It seems to be the genre of choice around here.Report
You know what we don’t have enough of here? Jazz.
Yeah, I said it.Report

Huh, no idea why one is an embed and one is a link, but I’m on mobile so it’s a hassle to fix. Sorry….Report
Glyph,
I do like DBT, but I think they still fit the general thesis. With the OT, what always gets me is the (seemingly) complete lack of interest in anything mainstream that I find unsettling. Or maybe trying to expose people to obscure bands makes better post fodder so it’s just what people like to write about.Report
Chris keeps in touch with some mainstream stuff I think, but it’s more hip-hop derived mainstream, so if hip-hop’s not your thing…
As for me, I always say: I didn’t leave pop music, it left me. 😉
Seriously dude, do some music posts. They are always welcome, plus we’ve been having some trouble filling the calendar lately because people have been busy. Get in there.
I’ve done plenty of music posts that get only a handful of comments, because it’s some niche thing that I am interested in, that maybe others aren’t.
Then, one of my most-commented on music posts used Black Sabbath as a jumping-off point, and I assumed that was going nowhere, but it turns out (some) people love Black Sabbath.
I’m sure if you wrote about the stuff you like to listen to, you’d find you’re not alone.Report
Thanks for the encouragement Glyph. I’ll consider. I’ve been thinking a lot about Queen lately since they have a new album coming out.Report
i nominate mr. dwyer to do a post about what music sounds the most like hunting*.
having moved to a place where hunting is “a thing” i sometimes wonder what hunters listen to when getting psyched up to go kill shit. i doubt it’s all worn c90 slayer mixtapes.
*if the answer is “field recordings” i will high five you.Report
@dhex
If there is a good sountrack for hunting I’m not aware of it. Maybe ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ for a good duck hunt or something from the Last of the Mohicans. For me, I prefer silence as much as possible.Report

whenever i see deer in my backyard i imagine this playing while someone drives an 89 chevy blazer with a snowplow on the front right through a whole bunch of baby deer. in slow motion.
needless to say i know nothing of hunting.Report
@glyph
No one is talking about how they feel about Star.
@mike-dwyer
Indie-Pop/Rock feels like it is the most authentic form of music for me to like. You might like Wussy though.
