The Other State Might Legalize It Too…

It would be remiss of me to not point out that Gov. Cuomo is *AGAINST* it… but we don’t know if he’s “veto” against it or just “won’t sign it” against it or “I’ll sign it BUT I WON’T LIKE IT” against it.Report

I’m thinking they’ll probably make something else illegal, just to preserve the balance of the world, if it ever goes through.

Matter of fact, come to think of it, spitting gum on the sidewalk is actually unlawful in a lot of places.
They need to step up enforcement on that one, I’m thinking.

You know, I would love to see prohibition end.

But I frickin’ hate medical pot. Not that it isn’t a useful medical thing; if I’ve got really severe migraine and am barfing my guts out, it’s my single best option. But. I cannot tell you how sad it’s made me to see so many people turn into hypochondriacs in this state. Walking around sick so that you can get high is a disturbing thing, and it is so common now that it makes me sick. But hey, I can get a referral for that, can’t I?

Just legalize it, forbid industrial growing, and get over it.Report

In Colorado, anyway, you can get a perscription for, and I’m copying and pasting this from The Wikipedia, “cachexia; cancer; chronic pain; chronic nervous system disorders; epilepsy and other disorders characterized by seizures; glaucoma; HIV or AIDS; multiple sclerosis and other disorders characterized by muscle spasticity; and nausea”.

In practice, you can get it for stuff like “sleeplessness” or “headaches” or “diarrhea” (I am not making that up). The main thing that you can *NOT* get it for is… PTSD.

Which really sucks because we have 5 military bases here in town and a lot of our good kids are coming back from overseas with PTSD and the stuff that would actually help them, the stuff that we have dozens and dozens of stores for here in town… they’re not allowed to take.Report

        Severe Muscle Spasms (Including MS)
        Severe Nausea
        Cachexia (wasting syndrome)
Chronic pain which has not responded to conventional therapy for more than 6 months.

That chronic pain brings every injury folk ever had into play.Report

The way we manage pain in this country is one of the things that I think we’ll look back upon in horror in a century.Report

I was talking with a friend the other day, who is a psychologist with the school district here. She was telling me that the new thing in treatment for PTSD is ecstacy. Not surprising really, as it was first a medication for people in marriage counseling, long ago.

Pain management is really something else. The class of drugs they use is known to be one of the most deadly; most often manifesting itself as cardiac events.
I know a fellow around my age that died in his sleep in December, having taken some pain medication.
I tend to stay away from the stuff.Report

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought it was about gay marriage… and got excited.
Reading the body, I see that it is about marijuana… and I’m still excited.
