Nothing recent seems appropriate to attach an off-topic item, so here… Southern Louisiana, with rivers already at or near flood stage, appears to be looking at anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of rain and possible hurricane-force winds over the next couple of days. The long-range European model suggests that the precipitation will eventually run far enough north to hammer Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, where crops are already suffering from excess rain this year.Report
The rain has been ridiculous this spring/summer. I just rode through Nebraska today. Kearney is flooded in the south part of town. The westbound lanes of I-80 were submerged yesterday but open today. I can’t recall that ever happening before. So the Platte River is high af. And running north from Omaha on I-29 the Missouri is still in flood stage though the Interstate is okay. The Missouri floods occasionally of course but this is ridiculous. It just seems incapable of returning to normal and it’s going on a couple months now.Report
This comic reminds me of an incident from my youth. I was at the County Fair with my best friend. We were maybe middle-school age and our folks had given us a little money and set us loose. When it was time for the Demolition Derby to start we, of course, had spent too much on rides and junk food and such and didn’t have enough money for the tickets. So we were trying to watch it through slats in the fence.
Some dude — all I remember about him was that he was “portly” — came by and offered to buy us tickets to get in. A warm memory indeed.Report
