My father had a long deep scar down the inside of his left thigh. Over the winter, someone dumped chunks of concrete from something that had been demolished with long pieces of rebar sticking out in the end of the local reservoir where the kids swam. Dad jumped from the high point on the bank into what had been the deep hole without anyone checking. Amazingly, the tear through muscle missed the artery, so he didn’t bleed out before the other kids could get him back to town.
Between mining accidents in my grandfather’s generation and the kid “mishaps” in my father’s that I heard about while I was growing up, it’s amazing that any of them managed to live long enough to reproduce.Report
