  1. It’s good to see a post that explains not only what folks are doing wrong, but offers a new set of tactics/ strategy that is not some variation of, “Do more of what isn’t working, just do it better!”.Report

    1. Mike,

I watched Senator Warren’s interview with Jim Cramer that aired around the time that her Accountable Capitalism Act was introduced. She presented herself very well, which impressed me. She defended herself as a capitalist, something I’m inclined to believe. Even if I have disagreements on certain points, I think she understands the issues with American capitalism, especially in the capital markets, more specifically the equity markets.

She’s much more capable of diving into the weeds than someone like a Sanders or the democratic socialist/socialist types or many of her conservative critics that cry socialism wolf every time she speaks.

It’s not an endorsement but I have more respect for her now than I did a few years ago.Report

  2. I’m a one main policy concern guy, so thus far Inslee is my only choice. On Day 1, I want names ready to go for Interior, EPA, and Energy; a list of rules to start through the process; and legislation to change FERC’s goals in certain ways. Inslee’s the only one talking that way.Report

  3. The “Two Income Trap” Elizabeth Warren is the good Elizabeth Warren.

The good play on the Native American thing was *ALWAYS* to run with “No, I’m not going to show you pictures of my family, you people are vultures!” (even while the best play was “look, I just repeated stories about my family history that I heard from my parents and whether or not they’re true, it *IS* something of a problem that I appropriated that for myself. Can we talk about The Two Income Trap, now?”)

The fact that she not only thought that the DNA test was the best play but that playing it as if she *PROVED* any goddamn thing by demonstrating an ancestor between 6 and 10 generations back and saying that HA! She won against Trump and he needs to pay up! shows that her judgment ain’t that great. She can’t read the room.

If I were a fan of technocratic leadership, I suppose I’d see her as a good one.
But if technocracy got us here, what use is technocracy?

She should turn into Ted Kennedy and treat the DNA thing as her own personal Chappaquiddick. Yeah, it’s unfair that she be forced into that role without even getting to kill anybody but, at this point, that’s the best play.Report

    1. The thing about Warren’s DNA test for me is that it gives me the impression, not of a high-minded intellectual trying to combat falsehoods with evidence, but more like someone who was offended by Trump’s jibes and just had to do something to win.

Not only does this speak poorly of her character (politics is not a place for the thin-skinned), but ti also makes her a very bad choice to challenge Trump in particular. Trump already knows how to push her buttons, and I don’t see that going well for her during the campaign.Report

I will admit your political scene has a relatively high proportion of whiny babies in power. Can you imagine Trump having to deal with Question Time? For that matter, I can’t imagine Clinton being able to deal with it (Hillary that is, Bill could probably do it).Report
