Demographic Crisis: This seems to be more of a geographical issue than anything else and it is something that has been talked about since 2004 if not before. Maybe since 2000. Democratic candidates for the House and the Senate receive more votes than Republicans but still end up a minority because of gerry-mandering.
Gen Z: I will point out that this piece was written by a far-right conservative and contained a bit of hoping it is true. I am not really into tattoos or piercings and very few people can doubt my left-wing bonafides. Likewise, there are also of people who are right-wing with tattoos and piercings. So that part of the essay seemed more pearl-clutchy than anything else. That being said, generations can shift and then you have to be more micro. My parents are boomers. Steven Bannon is a boomer. But my parents were born in 1946 and 1947 and remembered the Civil Rights Movement and seeing Freedom Riders and Black Southerners get the shit kicked out of them for peacefully protesting for civil rights. They were also old enough to remember the Summer of Love and the awfulness of the Vietnam War. Steve Bannon was too young for that and joined the Navy after the Vietnam War ended and the last helicopter left Saigon. So I wonder if you have to look more closely than a big generational cohort. Plus I suspect you will see the same things happening accelerate in Generation Z. Minorities and educated professionals will stay on the left or go further left. Other groups will stay on the right.
Crazy vote: There is probably a group that likes to vote for that I think he is still looking too hard for a way for libertarianism to win.Report

Interesting Politico piece here about the Democratic Party in the West. (In November, the NE urban corridor produced 104 EC votes for Clinton; the West produced 98.) The Trump Administration has been proposing a number of policy changes that are unpopular in the West, even among western Republicans.Report
