What jumps out at me is the casual attitude of “Man decides at the last minute to take in a play.” At least in my metro area, while there are live plays showing pretty much every evening, deciding at the last minute that you’ll go is sort of a non-starter: chances are good that tonight’s performance is sold out. I suppose the contemporary equivalent is hitting the movies.Report
It really is. Film didn’t replace theater – but it did take over the boys of theater that film can do more easily – like special effects heavy thrillers.Report
Back then weren’t vaudeville plays and the like basically everywhere? You had the newspaper or the plays for information and entertainment and that was about it.Report
