Friday Night Videos: Applied Science!
A few years ago I went with a couple friends to see this husband-wife duo I’d never heard of called ApSci (short for Applied Science). Their set was sort of like this (sorry, the sounds not great):
They killed it. Dana Diaz-Tutaan — the wife in the husband-wife duo — absolutely owns a room, as you can probably tell from that video. They were in-your-face rock with alternative hip hop thrown in, and maybe even a bit punkish. Whatever they were, they rocked. I bought there album and listened to it as soon as I got home. At first I was a bit confused, because it has a somewhat a different feel:
Electro-pop! I don’t think I quite saw that coming. But I listened, and listened some more, and listened some more still, and pretty soon I was a big fan.
They’re pretty damn diverse: still got the alternative rap thing going, along with the pop, and the rock, and the electronic. It’s really just fun stuff. Their last album, Best Crisis Ever has become one of my favorites of the last decade.
After a long week of workin’ or playing GTA V or whatever it is you spend your week doing, you deserve to have some more:
If you want more of their hip hop side (this is rap, so there might be a naughty word here or there):
And with Mr. Lif (who might pop up in a FNV in the future!):

also, i have been listening to remixes of Pistachio Island by Agargara all week.Report
Thanks for the links Chris. That’s good stuff.Report
Glad you liked it.Report
Lou Reed died today. Perhaps a Velvet Underground article is called for?Report
Oh jeez. That’s awful.Report
Wait, he was 71? How is that possible?Report
He was already on borrowed time. Liver transplant.Report
A lot of the early rockers are in their late 60s to 70s now.
Considering his lifestyle, 71 is an accomplishment in many ways.Report
Dude, seriously, 71 is a good run, if you lived his life.Report
I could write one…Report
Would be cool. I know a little of Velvet Underground and their music and Lou Reed and his music. I know the famous saying that not many people bought the Velvet Underground’s First Album but everyone who did formed a band. Though I’m not good enough to track the influences and combine.Report
Okay, it’s up.Report
