Weekend!
Holy cow, is tomorrow Friday already?
Indeed it is.
After a couple of carefree weekends just batchin’ it, goofin’ off, and droppin’ “g”s, things return to normal. We’re going to be hitting the porch tomorrow night, running errands and doing chores all day Saturday to culminate in gaming night where we’ll be doing some serious Descent: Road To Legendsing, and Sunday is a day to rest, recover, and do laundry.
Ah.
So… what’s on your docket?
Kentucky State Fair on Saturday and fingers crossed that our pimento cheese won a ribbon this year!
The oldest daughter turns 19 this weekend (so hard to believe). Big birthday bash on Sunday.Report
It’s fair time here, too! Going to try to score tickets for George Thorogood later in the week. I’ve a law project to work on, a writing project to work on, and a cooking project to work on. So that’s a pretty full plate.Report
The AV fair?
I’m surprised he still has the stamina to do a gig. If he’s up to it he puts on one heck of a show.Report
I saw George in the pit at Universal Amp… wow, was it that long ago?
It was really long ago. Still one of my favorite shows, the band was about 10 feet away.Report
Paul McCartney just did a multi-hour set in SF, so a kid of 63 should be fine.Report
Until the eating is finished at least.Report
Pics?Report
I finished Atlas Shrugged! I am hoping to get the TV set up so that I can watch the first two movies. (No politics.)Report
Oh, and cigarette-free for 45 hours and 22 minutes. I will probably slip, but this is real progress.
(Most frustratingly, my reserve of Bupropion, anti-smoking medication, appears to have disappeared in the move. Which will make things harder. Resurfacing this move, however, is two fresh, sealed packs of cigarettes that disappeared in the previous move.)Report
Throw them out the window!Report
Don’t slip. Avoid the extinction burst.Report
“Extinction Burst” sounds like what Chris will be experiencing this weekend at his concert.Report
They’re like Bewitched, but everyone’s Darrin.Report
No teenager this weekend, so we’re going to do our best not to be deafened tomorrow night (MBV, who Glyph tells me can be somewhat loud), going to a pool party Saturday, and Sunday brunch with a couple friends from grad school who are getting in town late Saturday. All grown ups weekend for the first time in, like, forever.Report
Calling MBV live “somewhat loud” is like calling the surface of the sun “somewhat warm”. For anyone unfamiliar with them:
Report
1) I love HHGTTG.
2) Until this year, Ministry was the loudest thing I’d ever heard. Then I went to a dubstep show, with speakers that took up half the club floor, and a sound that made me think I was either having a heart attack, my lungs were collapsing, or I had just been shot with some sort of sound canon. If it is louder than that — this was so loud that I was yelling to my girlfriend and I couldn’t tell if I was making a sound… at all; it was like nothing was coming out, and you usually hear yourself from the friggin’ inside, but this sound was vibrating my very bones to such an extent that my voice had no chance — then we’re going to need bigger earplugs.Report
I’ve seen Ministry twice, and they are loud. I saw Grooverider in a London club (dark drum & bass, a dubstep forerunner) and it was loud. I’ve seen Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. (multiple times), and the Jesus and Mary Chain – none of them mess about, when it comes to sheer volume.
MBV is in another class entirely, not even close. You may want to try wrapping your entire body in bubble-wrap, with a snorkel for air.Report
I wil be walking in a 5K tomorrow that also involves having “flavor powder” thrown on the runners by “flavor fairies.” My company has a flavor and fragrance division, and I decided to support them. It is the sort of thing I would not normally do, and I consider it good to do things that I would not normally do on occasion.
Other than that, no big plans.Report
Flying to Boston on Sunday to present at a conference next week. Tonight we’ll finish watching “The Incredibles” with Alice.Report
Depending on other factors, I may try to finish Holy Motors tonight. I’ve been watching it in small chunks, not my preferred way to watch a film, but I’ve been so tired it’s all I could manage.Report
All of what Jaybird said. With bonus sleep for me as I am still recovering from the flight home. (NTS: Next time I go to New Zealand, TWO days off before returning to work…)
Also probably a lot of sitting around thinking about how much fun I had 😀Report
It was great to catch up with you.Report
🙂 Likewise.Report
Gaming, tennis, and the pool.Report
West Coast Swing at Strictly Westies.Report
I thought that was something COMPLETELY different.
In that vein, this weekend is (NSFW) The Floating WorldReport
It feels some what Orientalist but not necessarily off-topic to call that event The Floating World.Report
West Coast Swing can be a very sexy dance but not that sexy.Report
Working on the exterior of the house if the power company comes to turn off the power in the morning so we have enough time to get what we need done without electrocuting ourselves and our anniversary date to see Wicked.Report
