Friday Night Jukebox: Fight Test
From the best album of pop music I expect to see in my lifetime, the Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Been on my mind for all kinds of personal reasons, maybe obvious. And a great song for triggering the runner’s high, if those weren’t enough:
The first synth riff with the bandpass twist from YoshimiBtPR-2 instantly returns me to the winter of 2002-3 in Baton Rouge. Turned my boss onto FL. I kinda save that album for moments when I really have to finish something and need to sprint to the finish line.
Bien fait. Hoisting a Leinenkugel’s Honey Weiss in your general direction. It’s a perfect night here, adolescent kids walking on the street in the twilight and the planets appearing in the sky.Report
It’s amazing how the right piece of music can evoke a time and a place. This one evokes a winning poker night for me, though even saying so seems to diminish it. I stand in awe of this album.Report
It’s the weirdest thing- I was actually the very writer who reviewed this record for Bust Magazine when it came out because they were shorthanded and it was released near to their publication date and my best friend is an editor there. I think I did a good job, but I still wonder if I captured the importance of the album. I mean, I recognized at the time that it was pretty incredible and said so in the review, but I don’t know if I conveyed how monumental it was. At any rate, I hear your Jason. It’s pretty much a perfect pop album.Report
Great album! On a personal note met Wayne Coyne at an opening the other night I got a hug (squeee!) OK fan girl, girly moment over with.Report
Nice pick, Kuz.Report
