Bloomberg’s Address
If you haven’t read or heard it yet, this really is a special, stirring bit of speechmaking from Mayor Bloomberg defending the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” that exemplifies the best of the American tradition. I also agree with James Fallows that the best part about the speech is its “big-shouldered unflappable confidence.” If we truly believe in the American tradition codified in our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Bill of Rights,, then we must have enough confidence in that tradition to recognize that the existence and strength of other faiths represents no threat to that tradition and indeed, are just the latest chapter therein.
Hooray for Michael Bloomberg. That speech is one for the ages.Report
Sanity on the mosque issue, I’m refreshed.Report
If the right-wingers knew what they were doing, they would have told Bloomberg that the Muslims will allow smoking sections and serve pastries made with Crisco in the cafeteria (where the tables all have salt shakers).Report

@ThatPirateGuy, Don’t get me wrong. I love it when people do the right thing.
It’s just that if they’re doing it for the wrong reasons in the middle of doing a whole buncha other stuff for similar wrong reasons, they might get the idea that they need to keep on keepin’ on with their old wrong reasons.Report
