Reading comprehension was never his strong suit
The Weekly Standard puts out some great long-form journalism, but goddamn is their blog spectacularly annoying sometimes. Here’s Daniel Halper, criticizing The Washington Post for hiring David Weigel to cover the conservative movement:
If Weigel really wants to understand the bigots and violent extremists that comprise the conservative movement and the Republican party, he might want to start by reading conservative blogs, which are noticeably absent from the blog roll on his site at the Post.

Regardless of that, shouldn’t criticism of said post be something that a simple photo of the blog in question doesn’t refute?
I mean come on. All Daniel Halper accomplished was making himself look stupid and lazy. He has every right to do so but it doesn’t seem advisable.Report
I read Weigel everyday, as I did when he was at the Washington Independent, and if anything, I think he’s become more sympathetic to conservatives/Republicans than he was there. Not in a bad way, but in a “sympathetic but skeptical” kind of way. Which is an awkward way of saying that claims that David Weigel isn’t being fair to conservatives are asinine at best, and disingenuous at worst.Report
What makes the point even more hilarious is that Weigel doesn’t just have the relatively clean and respectful of the right-wing blogging world but some of the nastier ones like gateway pundit and the other mccain.Report

It’s just as funny to see progressives bitch that he’s too sympathetic to conservatives. Jane Hamsher was doing just that on Twitter the other day. You just can’t please anybody, apparently.Report
