Another Bleepin’ Year
I make no argument these were the ten best, nor most-popular electronic releases of 2015. They’re just the ten electronic albums released in 2015 that I listened to the most.
YouTube playlist above, sequenced for flow not ranking (nothing from the new Special Request was made copyright-available for YouTube playlisting, though individual tracks are available; so that track is a bonus track from his prior full-length, which is also very good); likewise, the list below follows the same sequence.
Album cover images take you to Amazon to buy; Artist/Title links take you to my posts about them.

I am SO EXCITED that as it is almost winter break, I will soon be able to listen to all of these.Report
Also, it’s only kinda sorta electronic, and it came out 2 years ago, but I have listened to Sylvan Esso‘s Coffee about a million times this year:

I’m only on the first song, but I’d call that electronic. Her vocals are pretty Feist-y.Report
Not much of an electronica fan, but Sister Crayon is always a +:

Also, the actual album’s not out yet, but this should get an honorary mention. One of my favorite scores on TV:

Good stuff. As I was going through, I was convinced that both the Scuba and Lakker albums had come out in ’14, since it feels like I’ve been listening to them for that long.
Other good ones this year: Kiasmos, whom dhex mentioned recently, along with Nicolas Jaar:

And though it’s heavy on the vocals, I’ve been transfixed by BAILE, particularly when paired with Felicia Douglas, as here:

Oh, and Blanck Mass (another album I was thinking was from ’14, since it feels like I’ve been listening to it forever) and Earthly’s Days.Report
see dude i was just gonna say blanck mass but then you did.
also:
oneohtrix point never (!!!)
holly herndon
prurient
recondite
coil (backwards was released this year but is from the 90s – i love it)
christoph de babalon (i like this return to breakcore form)
mark mcguire’s new one
i really like the new kanding ray album cover more than i like the music, which is disappointing since i love his dj sets.Report
I never gave the new OPN a chance, I kind of burned myself out on him.
Holly Herndon I need to try, but a lot of the commentary surrounding it seemed so discouragingly theoretical/analytical, it kind of put me off.Report
it’s good! not very theory at all.
i am an opn fanboy pretty hard (he’s a nice dude who makes nice music) but i will say garden of delete is
a) got some great cover art
b) is the most expansive and unusual thing he’s done
i also liked r plus 7 quite a bit for it’s weird 70s art museum vibe.Report
If I’d learned of Kiasmos earlier, they likely would’ve made my list. But as it is, it would have felt like cheating for me (I like to spend a LOT of time with a record before I pronounce it a favorite).
That Nicolas Jaar track seems like a throwback to the ‘glitch’ era.Report
