  1. My favorite is “She came in through the bathroom window.”

When I was a kid, I used to crack up at his, er, animated singing style.Report

  2. We saw Joe Cocker opening for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers just a few years ago, and he was smoking. I could never stand Michael Bolton, though I never analyzed why.

The one tune you haven’t mentioned is his performance of “Come Together” for the film Across The Universe”.Report

  3. the man who sang the saccharine-coated dreck that is You Are So Beautiful

How dare you forget to mention his only #1 song in the US, “Up Where We Belong”? It falls in the same category.

his rendition of Little Help may be the only classic Lennon-McCartney song whose cover is arguably more iconic than the original

I don’t know if it is iconic because it was the theme to The Wonder Years, or it was chosen as the theme because it was iconic.

Nevertheless, his cover of “Something”* isn’t iconic, but it is still a damn good song, and I am listening to it now.

*Not a Lennon-McCartney song; it was written by George HarrisonReport
