Saturday!
Overlord is one of those games that I kinda enjoyed on the Xbox. Minion management through some nice fantasy tropes and a morality system that wanders from “accidentally good” to “comically evil” with a decent enough storyline, all things considered. Well, it, its expansion, and its sequel are bundled for 5 bucks (!) on Steam so I picked that up. Fingers crossed that it’s vaguely replayable.
Hey, it got an 81 on Metacritic (sequel got 79) so how bad could it be? Of course, Mass Effect 3 still has an 89 so it’s not necessarily accurate, but, as a general guide, it usually isn’t that untrustworthy. I mean, I doubt that there was a lot of payola for Overlord, right?
So… what are you playing?
If you don’t get to the last 20 minutes, ME3 is a great game. How that fits into a metacritic score is beyond me.Report
I might call it a good game with an absolutely amazing mission (Tuchunka with Mordin’s sacrifice and the mother of all Sandworms giving a reaper the Kwisatz Haderach) and a fairly interesting mission (the Geth one) but the last 20 minutes was an ending that not only soured the game as a whole, it soured the previous two.
It Star Wars Prequelled the series.Report
I can’t fault you for that; I absolutely despised the ending myself. But then, I despised the ending to Battlestar Galactica for basically the same reasons and with the same intensity, but I still think most of the rest of the show was pretty great.Report
The multiplayer was just insanely fun. I don’t know how they managed to pull that off.
I went months without touching it, figuring it was just a half-done attachment slapped on the side to make a few bucks from players. Pure greed, you know?
I was WRONG. I’m eager for Dragon Age 3 (I beat Dragon Age several times, never finished DA2. I was NOT eager for DA3 until I heard they were doing MP like ME3’s) and Mass Effect 4 just for the multiplayer.
Just..fun little ten minute co-op games.Report

Non-gaming comment: today is my 54th birthday. I’m not quite sure what to think of that, I never expected to make it this far when I was young. Anything over 36, the age my mother was when I realized she had an age, seemed old.
I think I’ll buy a Crosstrek to celebrate, since nobody’s given me reason not to (I do need a new car, though not a New car,) and I can’t find a vehicle that I like better.Report
Happy Birthday.
I have less than a week left to being 33.Report
That was one of my favorite years. Both kids in school, so I had some time to be a real, independent adult, a lot of involvement with my community, and we were beginning to go to the White Mountains to hike regularly. I could climb mountains, which is very difficult for me know, I need flatter terrain, coming down’s a challenge, hurts my knees and back, destabilizes my balance.
I hope your 33rd revolution around the sun sparkles.Report
Just in case you’re the Messiah, watch your back.Report
zic,
That’s what hiking poles are for! I used to hike without them, but they’re seriously needed if you’re mountaineering.Report
@kim, for most people, poles are an excellent solution. Me, I have unreliable hands due to neck injury, and if I can’t trust my weight to my legs, the last thing I’d want to do is trust it to my hands; recipe for disaster, that.Report
Happy B-day.Report

Happy Birthday @zicReport
Our friend whose dad sells Subarus for a living is also about to buy a Crosstrek – seems like a good choice to me.Report
And happy birthday!Report

Happy birthday! I’ll be buying a Crosstrek once a get one pesky bill (a credit card) paid off. Maybe next year?Report
I decided to give Spec Ops: The Line a try, because it sounded like an interesting game. Since I suck at shooters, there is a decent chance I will get frustrated and give up before finishing, even though it is a short game and I am playing on easy. There have been some interesting cinematic moments, but I am not far into it yet. I know there are some big ones to come, if I last long enough.Report
There are a handful of things that I still don’t understand about that game, but they’re all in the 1st half. If you can get past them, the 2nd half happens almost inevitably.Report
it’s a tremendously good experience. it is not always the strongest game. ending is stunning.Report
finally getting ok at dark souls 2 pvp. dropped sunbros for bellbros for the time being, at least until i beat the gargoyles.
