Then they beat down the would be assassin like an Initech printer. (love the old guy at the end with his umbrella)Report
And the guy with a briefcase…satchel??Report
My immediate thought was that the gun was deliberately made to jam, that assassin was deliberately set up to fail, and that the politician has had an exceptionally clear message sent to him (and his party) anyway.Report
Well, with that much cynicism you can never be disappointed.
“Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist”Report
A successful assassination creates a martyr and a public outcry. A botched one creates an “OH SHIT” moment in the opposition that lasts decades.Report
It’s almost like you don’t know what the word “cynical” means.
Almost.Report
“Ahead of the curve”?Report
Have you ever read the details of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand? Until Princip actually shot him and his wife, it’s quite similar:
At 10:10 am, Franz Ferdinand’s car approached and ?abrinovi? threw his bomb. The bomb bounced off the folded back convertible cover into the street. The bomb’s timed detonator caused it to explode under the next car, putting that car out of action, leaving a 1-foot-diameter (0.30 m), 6.5-inch-deep (170 mm) crater, and wounding a total of 20 people according to Reuters.
?abrinovi? swallowed his cyanide pill and jumped into the Miljacka river. ?abrinovi?’s suicide attempt failed as the cyanide only induced vomiting, and the Miljacka was only 13 cm deep. Police dragged ?abrinovi? out of the river, and he was severely beaten by the crowd before being taken into custody.Report
That is embarrassingReport
I’d like to think that the countries that were members of the USSR actually got competent at assassinating opposition members in the last 100 years.Report
This fails Occam’s Razor, just like most conspiracy theories.
People are simply not that competent.Report
Almost no one from the foreign corespondents and tabloids doesn’t state that Dogan’s attacker is also ethnic Turk. This incident comes as a result of inside liberal MRF party problems and due the surrounding commercial interest and the range of companies around the Dogan. The shame of liberal MRF party is not and cannot be a shame of Bulgaria.Report
Dude is tough as balls. One hand gun slap. Let’s see Chuck Norris do that.Report

Early reports suggested the weapon was a gun, but it was later confirmed to be a gas pistol – a non-lethal weapon used largely for self-defence which does not fire bullets but which can cause serious injuries if fired from close range. Report
If it was an assassination attempt and not a setup, it was an extremely inept one.
The best kind, in my opinion.Report
Score one for cynicism.Report
The problem with cynicism is that cynics, by always expecting the worst possible reasons, causes, outcomes, can never be disappointed. They can be wrong tho. And more often than not. It’s just that being wrong is accompanied by a grim sort of pleasure. So the cynic is in a no lose situation. (They’re allergic to disappointment.)
For example, in this case, it’s the grim pleasure in being wrong that the assassination attempt was a setup. And a grim pleasure in being right, too!Report
I find it a little bit gunny that the non-cynical view here is an assassination and the cynical view is that nobody was supposed to die.Report
Both cynical and non-cynical people agree that an assassination did not take place.Report
Yeah, I missed an “attempted” in there.Report
