Saturday!
In Among The Sleep, you play a toddler who has only just recently mastered the whole “stand up and walk” thing. Crawling is still the best way to get around, of course, but some things are a couple of feet off the floor and there ain’t nothing you can do about that.
In the earliest minutes of the game, you learn that it’s your 2nd birthday and your present is a talking teddy bear that acts as flashlight when you hug him… which, seriously, comes in handy rather quickly.
I found myself walking through a gigantic closet filled with floor length coats, having to push past them in order to get from here to there. Now, I don’t know what might have been buried in my subconscious but there was a little something back there that remembered scenes like that one and I found myself both fascinated and more than a little creeped out.
There was nothing out and out scary (at least, not so far) but the universe was one of large, scary things making scary noises (like a washing machine, say) and you’re filled with the knowledge that your toolset includes crawling, this whole “standing up” thing, and a bear that turns into a nightlight when you hug him. That’s it.
Which is, seriously, creepy.
So… what are you playing?
