Weekend!
Friday involves getting on a plane and flying to the East Coast for a whirlwind tour of “Upstate”. Friday night involves checking in, showering, and collapsing in a heap to sleep off this cold we both have.
Saturday is “Convocation”. I have been told that I have to take pictures. The big moment is the walk across the stage, mooning the crowd, mooning the president, and then running off with the diploma.
Sunday is “Afterglow”. I’ve been told that we may make a short drive downstate a ways to meet with internet friends from waaaaaaaaaay back (telnet!) days if health and weather permits. Then we might meet up with some of Maribou’s fellow travelers.
Monday is back on a plane. Sigh. (Perhaps even… back to normal?)
So… what’s on your docket?
All packed and ready to go, and it’s only not even quite 2 in the morning. This has been quite a week.Report
Driving down to SLO to visit my son, and maybe some old high school friends (those that still live there)Report
The only big plan I have for this weekend is a date to see the opera Carmen tomorrow night.
Other than that, probably some video gaming and watching Wrestlemania IX.Report
Jealous! You have to tell me how Carmen goes.Report
I will try to remember to post my impressions. This is only my second time attending an opera, and I am not an expert.
This performance by The Houston Grand Opera. Their company is performing Wagner’s The Ring cycle over the next four years. Unfortunately, I found out about it too late to catch Das Rheingold this year. Hopefully we will be able to make it for the rest.Report
We enjoyed our night at the opera. The acoustics in the theater were very good, so we were able to hear everything very well, even up in the balcony. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. They did a great job casting Carmen, finding a lead who sang well and also looked the part.
We are already planning to see Madame Butterfly when they perform it next season.Report
That’s awesome. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed it!Report
This weekend is Bugs 2nd birthday. Aquarium today, dinner with his Godless Parents tonight, Zoo with mom tomorrow morning, party tomorrow afternoon, mothers day breakfast Sunday. Not sure what we are doing Monday.Report
You know you threw your kid a great birthday when 10 minutes after the last guest leaves, he’s passes out in dad’s arms while watching a movie in the hammock.Report
Colorado Symphony Saturday evening, then get ready to drive 550 miles with my daughter and 8-month-old granddaughter to visit my mother. Getting four generations together at once seems to still be pretty rare — longer lives offset by having children later, I suppose.Report
ValhallaReport
Well, ah, I hope you enjoy mead, smoked fish, and the company of bold warriors!Report
No Shield Maidens?Report
I could mean Valhalla in Westchester County, NY.
I always loved seeing the sign “Now entering Valhalla”Report
Bold warriors from every place on the gender spectrum.Report
Saturday our friends’ have a concert in the afternoon, and in the evening another friend’s having a birthday potluck dinner and living room dance.
Sunday and Monday are the usual shift at the community bike workshop and dance, respectively.
Hopefully we’ll get our kitchen cabinets into a sufficiently finished state that their usual contents can move back out of the big cardboard box in the living room.
Throughout the weekend, there will likely be considerable eating of pulled pork, my first success at slow-roasting on our grill. It can’t be a contribution to the potluck, unfortunately, as that calls for vegan dishes. (also for “organic and high vibrational” food, whatever that means. Sometimes I think of myself as a hippy, but then I’m reminded that there’s a whole hippy branch of the language I don’t even speak)Report
Clancy and I need to figure out what we’re doing about a carseat for the little one. There may even be a post about it to come.
I need to make arrangements for dog-sitting while we’re out of town.
I am also considering terroristic acts against Google for what they did to my phone. (I’m not really considering this, NSA.)
Stuff like that.Report
So Lain is vomiting up a storm. I suspect that’s going to factor into my weekend.Report
Could bacon be the answer to this common childrearing issue?Report
Unfortunately, you only married a doctor, it sounds like you need a meteorologist.Report
A hair appointment and a hiking date tonight after work and in the rain. I love Oregon! 😉
Saturday are errands, cleaning, play-date, lots of little stuff.
Junior is taking me to a local, little kid friendly, theme park for Mother’s Day. 🙂 He still thinks every celebration is a birthday.Report
No downstate for us, we are too sick to make the drive. But we do have a whole day of doing almost nothing ahead of us, and we found a Brigadoon-esque Greek-American diner yesterday, so if it reappears out of the mists this morning, we’ll have breakfast there…Report
