FNV: Amor Fati
It is the last Friday of the year, which means that in a few days, we’ll all be staring down the long, empty corridor of a new one, wondering what lies behind its many doors. Or we’ll be drinking ourselves into oblivion to forget this one. Either way…
Every year, when New Year’s approaches, the two sides of me — the optimist and the pessimist — begin to tussle with renewed intensity. At some point, late on New Year’s Eve or early on New Year’s Day, I’ll sit back, think a little bit about the year that’s passed, and the years that came before it, remembering all the wonderful people I’ve known and the beautiful memories I’ve made with them, and two words from a long dead language will come to me, uniting my two sides. Amor Fati. Love fate. Then I will fall asleep.
Oh, and as a bonus, here’s the song I always think of at some point on New Year’s Eve. Enjoy (it’s got some cussing, so beware if you’re at work):
