A call for prayers and good wishes to OKC
By now probably everyone knows about the devastation that wracked Oklahoma City and its suburbs, especially the town of Moore.
As regular readers of mine will know, my sister teaches at the University in Norman and I was relieved to hear that she and her husband are fine. In fact, I have now heard from everyone I know in OKC, and am grateful beyond belief that those I know and love have dodged the bullet. This includes League regular Anne, our resident alpaca-loving, kilt-wearing, Thunder fan (and all-around great human being). She let me know via a Facebook post that her husband is covering the story, and he says it looks like a “war zone.” Every picture I have seen sadly confirms that description. Elementary schools, water treatment plants, huge tracks of neighborhoods – it’s about as bad as such a thing could be.
Horribly, I’m well aware my good fortune doesn’t extend to everyone who has loved ones in the OKC area. For those readers who have family, friends, and loved ones in the area know that my prayers, thoughts, wishes and hopes go out to you. Know also that I speak for the rest of the League on this front, writers and readers alike.
I’m a little hesitant about posting a site you can make relief donations to, since I’m unsure which places would best help those in need. If you have a recommendation, please post it in the threads.
Be safe, everyone.
That’s a relief, thank you for the post. I’ve been thinking of Anne all day and I’m glad to know that she’s alright.Report
Thank you Tod I will try to find some donation sites to share. Mary your kind thoughts mean alot the last few weeks have been hard and today makes it that much harder I am glad to have my friends and family to rely on at times like this and this includes my friends here at the league.Report
Hope everything is okay for you Anne and that the impact didn’t hit your own area too hard.
Best wishes for Oklahoma, it looks like someone went over some of those neighborhoods with some kind of giant lawn mower. Awful and sobering.Report
Thanks North my Mom lost power but that is so minor compared to what many are going through.Report
