There is undoubtedly a great deal to be concerned about when it comes to the culture that surrounds football, particularly big time college football. But every now and then, you read about a remarkable relationship between an elite college football player and a girl, one that makes you smile or cry or both. And, much to Brent Musberger’s chagrin, it’s not about that girl.

A week ago, I was a casual supporter of ND and virulent hater of Alabama (a friend went to Auburn, if you must ask). Between Sam’s post and this, I find my opinions have completely reversed. That was seriously the most beautiful story I’ve heard in a very long time.Report

As for Musberger, I remember him broadcasting a baseball All-Star game, and ignoring what was happening on the field for most of an inning while he chatted with a few “celebrity guests” who had found their way into the booth. This was a radio broadcast,Report
