Goal of the year? Frankly, I thought each of the two runners-up were better:

I don’t even think those three should’ve been the finalists.
Still think Ibra’s overhead lob against England should’ve won it.Report

I’d forgotten about this. I agree completely.Report
Beautiful, beautiful goal…still think Ibra himself looks like an evil cardinal or something from a Dumas novel, but he’s certainly got skills.
…also they should just name it the “Leonel Messi Ballon D’Or Award” and let other people win it.Report
Ibra’s goal is the most improbable goal I’ve ever seen, but I find goals in traffic much more impressive. Which means I’ll go with pretty much any goal Messi scores.Report
IIRC, Ibra’s goal came a few days too late to qualify for Goal of the Year – it’s eligible next year.Report
Also, I’d have gone with any of the other two candidates over the goal that won – Neymar’s was just a beautiful run; Falcao’s was not overly different from the winning goal, except that it was slightly closer but waaaaay more athletic.Report
Neymar’s probably suffered from the fact that the finish itself wasn’t terribly sexy.
Aside from Ibra’s goal, I think this one by Messi was one of the best of the year:
