Got an early start to go to Nebraska to camp on the centerline of totality....got 12 miles into Kansas and Suburban just stopped running. 1.5 hours waiting on a tow to Wellington KS where we were saved by Randy and friends at O'Reillys and special thanks to mechanic Beau who helped us troubleshoot. One replaced distributor cap and rotor later and we are back on the road.
Got to the Moffett Place, a 100 some odd acre farm in Ravenna Nebraska $35 a night for camping. They had a fire pit, porta johns, and cooked three squares for a little cash to the kitty.
Hubby had his 800mm lens with solar filter and got some incredible shots (one below) I've seen partial eclipse but this was a whole 'nother ball of wax. We are already talking about making reservations for the next eclipse as it will pass thru the SE corner of the state
Dear husband aka Idiot Photographer, found us a camp site on the grounds of an 1800s farmhouse in Nebraska that is basically on the centerline of the path of totality. $35 bucks a night and they are serving 3 square if you donate to the kitty. (Fundraiser to restore the house)
We got eclipse glasses weeks ago and of course he got a solar filter for the camera.
So work for me all day today home to pack car. Then level at ungodly hour to drive 7 houses to the farm
Not only fathers and sons I'm named after my mother nobody checks birthdates.
When I went to get my first car loan they said you have too much credit extended (I had one credit card) I looked at the list and most of the accounts were opened when I would have been 10 years old or younger. Its easy for me to get my mom to help contest these mix ups but to try to get a total stranger?...not very likley
We leave tomorrow for my youngest step-daughter's Graduation in a SMALL town in Illinois (think lots of corn). We will be there for 5 days since her younger brother still has school till Wednesday afternoon. Twelve hour drive so it made sense to just shack up at a cheap motel until he is through with school rather than drive back be home for one day and drive back up. Then the summer begins and I get to come home and put out fires from being gone almost a week.
“If you can’t get laid at Pennsic, you’ll never get laid at all!”
hee, hee, I can attest to that went to two Pennsics single and found a boyfriend at each one. One short term one much longer term. If for some reason something happened to Dear Husband. I would think of getting back in the SCA for the dating pool. Haven't been involved since I left Denver in 2000 but still in touch with many good friends I made in the SCA
Spent yesterday watching them pull a 100' railroad turntable out of the ground (210,000 lbs) and the pivot point (10,000 lbs) and load it on a ginoumous truck. Was hoping we would get the permits from the city/state to move it to the museum today but alas bureaucracy. ODOT wants us to use city streets, the city wants us to use the interstate. They will probably futz around until later next week so we have to move it in the rain.
Tomorrow yard work, the code nazis are out measuring everyone's grass and looking to generate revenue.
We are having just such a problem with architects right now. I just don't understand it. Planning an expansion for a railroad museum. The board and members want the buildings to look similar to old depot and other railroad buildings the architects are dead set on making drawings with modern structures. Needless to say we are looking for new architects.
I currently have a 1998 Suburban you can get a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back its awesome! Has a third row seat that is out and we hardly ever use but on long road trips and camping trips its awesome. Used to own a Mazda B2000 extended cab pick up and a '84 Grand Wagoneer when I lived in CO.
Moved to NYC and got rid of all my cars. Till I moved to Harper's Ferry then had to get a car again. Hardly used it when I moved into DC. Would love to not have to use a car now but OKC is definitely not conducive to that.
My Tod how bittersweet for your son and your family. But congrats on an amazing season.
I'm with you on the blank slate, it angers me to see some of the very ones complaining of GOP obstructionism talking about having the democrats do the same exact thing. We are better than this.
One silver lining of this election is that since Oklahoma is so red I got to vote for the libertarians Gary Johnson got 6% which means the Libertarian party retains ballot access for 2018
