Friday Jukebox – Comment Rescue/Zero Dark Thirty Edition
In Ethan’s review of Zero Dark Thirty, Glyph notes:
OK, this is totally irrelevant to the discussion, but I just went to Bigelow’s IMDB page to see if I had seen any of her films aside from “Near Dark” (which despite a sort of lame ending is awesome) and “Strange Days” (which I have only seen in part) and I discovered that she made the totally ridiculous metal-parody music video for New Order’s “Touched By The Hand Of God.”. The song’s not great but everyone should see that video once.
You know, I realize no one but me would care, but I already typed this all out, so I am going to click
Personally, I thought that was pretty insulting. No one would care. Sheesh.
I didn’t know that Bigelow did Strange Days. Awful movie. I’ve seen my share of violent films, but that thing was a thinly-disguised snuff film.Report
I know that I watched Strange Days, but I really don’t remember it all that well. I have this recollection of it not being as good as it should have been. I guess the fact that I don’t really remember it says a lot.Report
I remember really liking Strange Days, but that was a long time ago.Report
I love me some New Order, but this is a B-side if they ever made one. Still, the video is pretty funny (and Hook’s bass is always a pleasure to hear). I want a jacket that says “ACE” in big letters on the back.
IIRC, Sumner and Hook were in some rock/metal-type bands before they saw the Pistols play in Manchester (same show or shows that spawned Buzzcocks and many others) and changed their thinking entirely. So this video may have been a fun “road not taken” thing for them.Report
I just watched the video and was wondering what Ian Curtis would have thought.Report
I started, then scrapped, several tasteless Ian Curtis jokes and puns.
So I’ll just say that as much as I love and respect JD (hugely, hugely influential band), I preferred NO overall, as uneven & flawed as they were (I won’t say “are”, because without Hook, A-grade a-hole that he is, there IS no “New Order”).Report
