Question I should have asked before – who is in the OP, members about to enter society as adults, members about to be born into society? All at the same time? What about future generations? Is trans-generational comparison of benefits something that needs to be considered? What if the different possible societies have different populations (due to the effects of the rules)? How does that impact the evaluation? Maybe I’m asking questions that will be answered later…Report

All will be answered later. Except the bit on intergenerational justice. Everyone in the OP is of the same generation. He says that people are blind to which generation they happen to fall into, so they will choose a principle for intergenerational justice that they would want to apply whichever generation they happened to end up as. Presumably, it must neither demand too much from nor provide too little. He doesn’tget more concrete than that. I have basically ignored intergenerational justice in my derivation. At most it may merit an extra line or two when it comes to dealing with specific conditions of society.Report
